A massive migration of miniature proportions | #HelloSpringCBC

When springtime conditions are right, these springtails make a break for it, migrating together in their hundreds of thousands.

At only 1.5mm long, they may be small, but they’re mighty. They can jump 15cm into the air, the equivalent of a human jumping over the Eiffel Tower!

These little springtails have special hairs that allow them to walk on water and they are thought to be the most abundant macroscopic animal on Earth, with more than ten thousand living in every square metre of soil! So, always remember to take a closer look — there’s an incredible micro-world all around us!
