Canada’s women’s hockey team lost the gold-medal game 3-2 in a shootout to the United States on Thursday, February 22, at the2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
A power play in the first period gave USA the edge and the first goal, thanks to forward Hilary Knight. Canada scored twice in the second period, with goals from Haley Irwin and captain Marie-Philip Poulin. USA’s Monique Lamoureux-Morando tied it in the third.
Then, in the shootout, American goalie Maddie Rooney denied Meghan Agosta in the shortly after Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson put the Americans ahead with a deke for the history books.
