Trying to lose weight by undergoing a gastric band surgery is one of the most popular weight-loss procedures in Canada, but is it worth the price tag? Gastric bands are paid for in some provinces. but mostly they are offered privately at a cost of about $16,000. Research shows gastric bands can result in serious complications — on top of that, patients don’t always lose much weight. Even if the procedure fails, CBC Marketplace learns some patients are still left paying a huge bill.
