Jury finds Raymond Cormier not guilty of killing Tina Fontaine

Raymond Cormier, the man accused of second-degree murder in the death of Tina Fontaine, has been found not guilty by the jury. Shortly after the verdict came down, Indigenous leaders in Manitoba criticized the systems they say failed the 15-year-old girl. Fontaine’s body was found in Winnipeg’s Red River, wrapped in a duvet cover and weighted down with rocks in August 2014. Cormier was charged in her death in 2015.
